Return Policy
RETURNS AND EXCHANGES
We stand behind every piece that we produce and every diamond that we sell and while we offer multiple ways for you to be able to visually and physically preview your purchase, we understand that sometimes returns are unavoidable. Because of this, you have 30 days from the day your order is shipped to make a return. Please note that any piece or stone that shows signs of damage or alteration will not be accepted.
The return process goes as follows:
1. Request a return either by doing so on your account page or by emailing us with your order number in the subject line and 1 or more pictures showing the top and side of the piece you are returning.
a. If your order has multiple items, please specify the item you would like to return.
b. If there is clear wear, damage or alteration in the photo, we will follow up with an email to learn more.
2. If we do not see any photographic evidence of wear, damage, or alteration within 1 business day you will get an email with a Return Authorization Number (RAN) and a pre-paid shipping label along with instructions on shipping and how to package your return securely. ***Please Note: Issuing a RAN does not mean that we have accepted your return. Your item(s) will still be subject to an inspection upon our receipt of them, as outlined below.
a. The jewelry box that houses your piece, and any accompanying documentation including lab grading reports for center stones, must be included in the return.
i. Failure to return the jewelry box will result in a $10 charge.

3. Once we’ve received your return, we will open the box under video surveillance and compare it with the photo you have submitted. You may request this footage up to 3 days from the date we receive the return.

SUPPLY YOUR OWN STONE POLICY:
Reusing a diamond or gemstone you already have is a great choice for the environment, and for you personally – be it financially or sentimentally.
We specialize in making rings tailored to the stones within them, and we welcome the opportunity to work with you on projects that reduce the need for mining and can preserve and reinvigorate family heirlooms.
It’s for this reason we’ve established the following procedure to protect your diamonds and gemstones, and give you piece of mind that they are being taken care of and suitable to be used in a new piece of jewelry.
- If you select to buy one of our pieces without a center stone, we will send you an email within 2 business days to setup a video call. We’ll request that you email us pictures and any documentation you have on your diamond/gemstone in advance of the call.
- It will be essential that you disclose any chips, abrasions, cracks, or other defects that you are aware of, or that documentation regarding the stone refers to. Even slight imperfections can create instability in a stone that may lead to damage in transit or when being worked on.
- While many gemstones are beautiful and unique, they can have varying levels of hardness and durability. There are certain gemstone types or shapes which That Specific simply cannot work with due to their susceptibility to damage. We will notify you if your stone falls into this category.
- Based on our call and reviewing all the pictures and documentation, if we determine that the stone is in a condition to be set in a new piece, we’ll arrange to have your stone sent directly to an accredited gemological lab so that it can be certified. There will be a fee for this certificate, which is the cost of shipping and the discounted rate we’ve negotiated with the grading lab. We will notify you of the amount in advance, and you have the right to cancel your purchase if you so choose. You can also elect to complete the purchase without a center stone. We cannot accept any stone that hasn’t been certified as per the terms of this document. The certificate will be yours to keep, whether you complete your project with That Specific or not and is a great thing to have for piece of mind and insurance purposes.
- We maintain very high standards for the materials we work with. We reserve the right to decline working with your stone for any reason. In such a circumstance, you can complete your purchase without a center stone or with a stone purchased from That Specific. You may also request that your purchase be cancelled. There will be no additional costs if you request to cancel your purchase if we’ve declined to work with your stone.
- If you opt to purchase your ring from That Specific without a center stone and subsequently have a stone set within it by anyone other than That Specific, the warranty and guarantee of quality workmanship from That Specific will be voided. That Specific is not responsible for the work done or damage created by anyone else under such a circumstance.
- Once the stone has been certified, the gemological lab will send it to That Specific’s New York office, and it will be opened and inspected. We will notify you when we receive it, and record the receipt and opening of the package, including confirmation that the stone matches the accompanying certificate. You may request the footage of this process for up to 3 days from the time we notify you.
- That Specific and any gemological lab we work with have the right to reject your stone if it is not deemed acceptable for any reason, including but not limited to that it may not stand up to the rigors of gemological testing, or that it does not appear to be consistent with what the claims, pictures, and documentation provided earlier in this outlined process.
- In the case of a misrepresentation of the condition of your stone, you will be charged for the cost of returning your stone as well as any costs incurred by the grading lab to determine the validity of your stone and veracity of your claims pertaining to it.
- We will take every reasonable step possible to protect and preserve your stone when it is in our possession. We are not responsible for any loss or damage incurred during this entire process, including while the stone is being delivered or with the gemological lab. By consenting to this process, you acknowledge this risk and indemnify That Specific from any responsibility if any damage whatsoever occurs to your stone.
- In the event that your stone is damaged, at our own volition but with no obligation, That Specific will work with you to find a solution that can salvage your stone. We are under no obligation to do so, and such a solution may incur additional costs which will be the responsibility of the customer. That Specific will work to minimize any additional costs under such a circumstance.
